Simon Townsend:
Writing under the pseudonym Simon Townsend, and having used pseudonyms in most instances to protect the privacy of others and avoid possible legal action, he is a survivor of repeated childhood abuse. This includes the physical abuse that his father inflicted on his children on an almost daily basis, and sexual abuse perpetrated by a paedophilic friend of his father, an act which his father appeared to condone. Additionally, he has lived with severe dyslexia and endured the lasting emotional effects of both the abuse and the prejudice that often accompanies this learning difficulty. Throughout his life, teachers informed him that he was "thick" and "stupid", while even today colleges and employers repeatedly fail to provide the reasonable adjustments to which he is legally entitled.
Ever since the perpetrator of his childhood sexual abuse died, as part of his own healing process if nothing else, he wanted to write a book that tells the story of his abuse in way that would help other survivors better understand what happened to them, and to inform them that they don’t need to suffer in silence. He wanted to reveal how elements of society, by adopting a self-preservationist, couldn’t care less attitude, ignore legislation and by doing so, show that they are as much to blame for the fact that 29% of adults experienced some form of abuse before they turned 18 as the instigators of such abuse. More importantly, he wanted to discuss the long-term effects of abuse, how easily it can occur, the mental health issues that it causes and what survivors need to do to help reduce their suffering. The result is ‘My Father Pimped Me Out’

For years, Simon carried the invisible weight of abuse, neglect, shame, and self-doubt. Raised in a family shaped by generations of dysfunction, and later targeted by a family friend, he learned to survive in a world where fear often felt normal and silence seemed safer than speaking out. In this powerful and deeply personal account, Simon traces the roots of his trauma through family history, explores the devastating effects of emotional and sexual abuse, and confronts the lasting impact these experiences had on his relationships, mental health, and sense of self. But this is not simply a story about what was done to him. It is a story of resilience, truth, recovery, and hope. Combining personal experience with reflections on trauma, learned behaviour, therapy, creativity, and healing, Simon challenges the shame that survivors so often carry and reminds readers that responsibility always lies with the abuser. Honest, courageous, and ultimately uplifting, this book offers survivors reassurance that they are not alone and that it is never too late to reclaim their future.
